CMS Issues New ABN

📣 Quick compliance heads up for anyone billing Medicare

CMS released an updated ABN (Form CMS-R-131) on March 13, 2026. It's effective now and expires March 31, 2029.

Here's what you need to know:
✅ The expired version is still acceptable through May 12, 2026
✅ After that date, the updated form is required
✅ This applies anywhere ABNs are used: medical offices, labs, imaging, and more

The deadline feels far away until it isn't. Whether your ABN lives at your front desk, inside your PM system or an EHR template, May 12th will sneak up on you.

Put it on someone's task list this week. Updating now is a lot easier than scrambling in April and it's a great time to revisit your team's workflows to ensure you are compliant.
